A winning hand in Spelldraw. Player's 21 (8 + 1 + 7 + 5) versus dealer's 20 (10 + 10).
Description[]
Spelldraw is a game that can be played in taverns across Astoria with the Spelldraw dealer. The game rules are similar to the real-life card game Blackjack.
The minimum amount required to make a bet is 50 gold and being level 11. However, there is no maximum bet amount. The game starts with you drawing two cards and the dealer drawing one. You can "hit", "stand", or "double." "Hit" means that you draw another card. This action can be repeated up to two times. "Stand" means that you stand on your position and don't draw anymore cards. "Double" means that you double your bet, then draw one card and draw no more. Each round of the game is limited to four cards for both the player and the dealer. This means that you can hit up to two times and the dealer can hit up to three times. The goal of the game is to get as high of a combination as possible near 21 without going bust, which means going over 21. If your card total is higher than the dealer's total, or if the dealer goes bust, you win the game.
Cards:[]
- Ace - value is one. Number card values are their face value.
- King, Queen, Jack: value is 10.
Tips and Tricks:[]
- Hit (or double if you're feeling lucky) on 11 or lower. It is impossible to go bust hitting once on a 11 (because the max value card is a 10). Hit again if necessary (e.g. drawing a 2 on a 10 is another relatively safe hit).
- The closer your hand is to 21, the riskier it is to hit.
- Stand on 20. It is basically a winning hand.
- The dealer MUST hit if they are under 17 total points, with the exception of them having played all 4 of their cards.
It is important to remember that although it uses more skill than other chance-based games, it's ultimately still influenced by luck. Players should not gamble more than they can afford to lose.
Bugs[]
Spelldraw is somewhat broken, the dealer doesn't count his cards correctly or dealer's card on the table is not the card being counted. For example, it is possible for situations where a dealer with what appears to be a 5 can beat the player with a 12. Player cards are not affected by these bugs. The dealer will also sometimes continue to hit and go bust, resulting in your win, even though he already has a hand that beats your hand.
